Match rules and procedures

Dragon matches are fights between a team of one dragon and one human against one or more opposing teams.  Aside from training-only fights, matches must be monitored by at least one mediator (At least one spectator selected for the task, or in the case of Golden Wing Circuit tournaments a professionally trained and licensed mediator).  All teams must be registered under one of the three political parties to take place in any Golden Wing Circuit, and all official Circuit tournaments are recorded and records are kept in the offices of the Golden Wing arena.

Most matches consist of 3 types of events.  Each event winner recieves 2 'event points', each loser recieves 1 'event point' for competeing.  After each competitor takes part in each event once, the events are held again as elimination rounds for any teams who tie with the most event points.

  • Timed Matches: Match has a time limit.  Each team begins with 0 points and fights in an attempt to force the opponant to the ground.  Any team who's dragon's side, back, or stomach touches the ground after or as a result of any attack or injury loses a point and the opponant team gains a point.  Most points at the end of the time limit wins the match.
  • Stock Matches: Teams begin with 5 points.  Like a timed match each team loses a point if fallen, the difference being that the team which downs their opponant does not gain a point.  The first team to lose all 5 points loses the match.
  • Skill matches:  Teams fight and gain a point for each skill action they meet during the fight.  These skill actions can be heights reached in the fight, the drawing of blood or downing of an opponant, winning the match under a certain amount of time, etc.

The Dragon Wing Cup is the annual championship and organize differently than the rest of the tournaments.  the first four matches for each competitor are elimination rounds.  If a team wins these first four rounds they compete in 10 more matches against opponant teams of various parties and dragon breeds.  If there are tied top scores at the end of these 10 rounds the tied teams compete in final elimination rounds.

The 10 rounds are scored as such:

  • 5 points for winning the match
  • 3 points extra for dismounting a rider, winning the match in the first round, or drawing blood on opponant dragon
  • 4 points for a default win due to a no-show or disqualified opponant
  • 1 point for each time an opponant dragon is forced to the ground.

- Unrestricted matches

Match Procedures

An unrestricted match can be in the form of a training match between competitions or small-time competitions with small crowds.  Matches can take place in any setting with no containment limits and can include any number of dragons.  No unrestricted matches may count as Golden Wing Circuit wins.

Match Rules

  1. The match will proceed until a rider yields or dismounts or the mediator calls to end it
  2. The rider of one dragon may not board the other.

- Semi-restricted matches

Match Procedures

A semi-restricted match can be a stricter training match, one on one match where riders know of bets involved by any party related to the match, or a community competition.  These matches have loose containment limitations (Fenced but no disqualification for passing over fence line in midair as long as the period outside of the perimeter lasts no more than thirty seconds).  Registered community tournament matches can count as wins on a rider's Golden Wing Circuit record.

Match Rules

  1. The match will proceed until a rider yields or dismounts or the mediator calls to end it
  2. No competitor may use a weapon against another crew member
  3. The rider of one dragon may not board the other.
  4. Ice-breathing and fire-breathing to the head are prohibited
  5. Acid spitting is prohibited

- Restricted matches and Golden Wing Tournament competition

Match Procedures

Any major competition or championship match must be a restricted match.  Matches are commonly one-on-one competitions.  These matches are contained in a ringed fenced-or-walled location, commonly constructed as stone or dry-tarred wood arenas.  There must be no less than 5 mediators located evenly around the competition area.  Any rider who's dragon appears to pass over or past the perimeter is automatically disqualified.  These competitions commonly provide top prizes of great amounts and prestige.  The Golden Wing Tournament is a competition of elimination matches between teams with 20 first or second place circuit wins in the previous year.

Match Rules

  1. The match will proceed until a rider yields or dismounts or the mediator calls to end it
  2. No competitor may carry a weapon during combat
  3. The rider of one dragon may not board the other.
  4. Ice-breathing, fire-breathing and acid spitting are prohibited
  5. Any harness or armour worn by the dragon in combat must not be spiked
  6. No dragon may carry more than one person.
